grant pauker
PhD student
Hello, my name is grant pauker. I am an Electrical Engineering PhD student at USC advised by Stephen Tu (USC) and Lars Lindemann (ETH Zürich). My current work focuses on using statistical tools to bound uncertainty in autonomous systems to formally guarantee their safety. More generally, I am interested in combining the guarantees of stability and safety provided by control theory with the flexibility of data-driven techniques (machine learning, statistics, etc).
I completed my undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering at UCLA in 2025. There I was a member of Bruin Racing Baja, leading the development of the control systems and software for the team's first fully functional ECVT (Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission). I also worked with teD Iwasaki studying the neural circuitry of leeches. Our research modeled these biological systems through the lens of controls, aiming to better understand the mechanisms of oscillatory locomotion
In my free time I like making things, fixing things that aren't broken, looking for clothes on eBay, collecting marbles for my marble jar, and more. Recently I was gifted a kite that I would like to fly, but I have not found the chance to do so; I will update when this has changed.
Check out my first ever post which I made for L4DC 2026, explaining the research from the first semester of my PhD.
